We started as neighbors…
Strangers at the time, but neighbors nonetheless. We lived 520 feet away from one another, just north of the panhandle - and about a mile from where we live today.
Luc downloaded Bumble on January 9, 2021 after a particularly challenging few months. He had just eulogized a dear friend who passed unexpectedly a few months prior, and was decidedly not looking for a girlfriend.
Monica downloaded Bumble many years before 2021. She had been on a million first dates, very rarely going for a second. She was decidedly looking for a boyfriend.
On January 13, 2021 Monica was the first person he went out with (online dating, it’s so easy!) MK edit: (online dating is not easy)
Two weeks in, Luc would text Monica to see if she needed anything from Walgreens (an excuse to see her) & “anonymously” had a bouquet of flowers delivered her birthday. Luc quickly got over this not wanting a girlfriend business, asked her to be his girlfriend in March 2021 & and told Monica he loved her a few months in after her first audible fart in front of him.
From neighbors they became lovers - then roommates, support systems, teammates, steady balances for one another.
We hatched the idea for this block party shortly after Luc told Monica he had asked her parents about proposing, almost ten months before he actually did.
Building this home has been a team effort (with Monica leading the way) and it felt right to begin married life on the steps of this house that is the center of our universe.
We look forward to celebrating with you in the streets of our city. Mid-September is famously the best time of year in San Francisco, and we can’t wait to share our world with you.
